Robert “Top Gun” Hight, driver of the Auto Club Ford Mustang, quietly, with very little fanfare, has established himself as the gold standard in a Funny Car division in which boss and teammate John Force still attracts most of the attention.

While the new president of John Force Racing, Inc., may never equal his father-in-law’s record 133 tour victories and 15 NHRA championships, he achieved something in his first seven pro seasons that no one, not Force, not Don Garlits, not Don Prudhomme, Kenny Bernstein or Tony Schumacher did before him.

Jimmy Prock once was considered the best crew chief never to have won an NHRA championship. Now the introspective 45-year-old with the go-for-the-jugular mentality may be the sport’s best crew chief, period.

How did you get involved in drag racing: When a friend that he grew up with called him and asked if he would like to travel the country and work on race cars, he was unable to refuse the amazing opportunity.

Background (education/work/racing experience): He attended West Virginia University specializing in Landscape Architecture and then went to work rebuilding rear ends and machining. His race experience has included the Winston Funny Car - Whit Bazemore; Winston Dragster - Gary Scelzi; Oakley Funny Car - Scott Cannon, Gary Scelzi; and Caterpillar Dragster - Rod Fuller

Favorite part about being involved with drag racing/working at JFR: the speed and teamwork; seeing his efforts transform into a smooth mean machine; intensity of race day; traveling
